I won't say that your crank was not defective, but I will say an oil change and filter every 20,000 km (12,000 miles) does not cut it. Even if the crank were in good shape, you are lucky it lasted three years. Here in the U.S. most of us who are serious about keeping an engine in good shape change the oil and filter every 3000 to 5000 miles that is about 5000 km to 8330 km. I drove an 83 900 Turbo I picked up at the factory in Sweden for over 13 years. Now one of my friends bought a new Volvo 242 DL that same year. They told him his car was ready. When he got there it was not. So the Volvo people panicked and built one by 3 p.m. that afternoon. About 350 miles from the factory, the odometer on Max's car stopped working. Seems the cable came loose. Now that is what I call reliability. Service in Brussels for Volvos was always more expensive than Saab. Sorry about your misfortune, but try changing your oil and filter more often. Ken Washington 87 9000S
