Saab has had two V6's in the 900 and 9000 lines. The 900 got a 2.5 V6 briefly and the 9000 had a 3.0 V6. From memory the block, crank etc is of GM/Opel Germany design and manufacture. I think the heads, cams and fuel injection tuning are Saab originated. The 94 model 900 2.5's had some reliability problems (cam belt). Later ones seem OK. Don't know about the 3.0. The Saab 4 cylinder engine has so much development under its belt that the reliability and servicibility of it is hard to ignore. All the Saab dealers know it well. Not as true with the V6. Saab introduced the V6 engine as an alternative to people who wanted towing ability (towing very heavy loads with a turbo is quite possible, but not good for the life of the turbo) and all around flexibility. They recently dropped the V6 from the 900 line. I've owner both turbo Saabs and a 2.5 V6 Saab. I find the V6 has very good throttle response and all around flexibility. It misses the turbo "thrust" of course. I'd be happy with either engine. I think you'll find the all around performance (excluding vs. the Aero of course...) and realiability issues awash. My main concerns would be servicibility/parts availability (4 cyl much better) and what kind of driving you'll be doing (6 cyl more flexible). Glenn
