Key to the extended drain is oil analysis. The lab will tell you if the wear metals are acceptable, if the additive package is still there, if the viscosity is in range, and if the oil has been contaminated (water, glycol, fuel, etc). As long as the oil is good, you change filter9s) and charge on for the next test interval (usually 25/35, 000 miles OR 1 year--less for turbos/diesels). > Do you think that oil with 100,000 miles on it lubricates as well as oil with 4,000 miles on it? Probably not quite as well, but if you are talking AMSOIL, it probably lubes better than fresh non-synthetic<g>. If you are planning to keep your car for over 400,000 miles, you might want to go ahead and change the oil out a bit more frequently (maybe evry 50K<g>, even if the lab says it is still good. I have Bypass Fitlers on both my turbos, not on my Dodge van, at least not yet. Have an old one here I'll probably put on, though I only run the thing about 8-10,000 miles a year. Personal opinion is that the Bypass Filter is a great thing, especially if you are running turbo/diesel/or commercial operation. For Harry Homeowner's Honda, it is probably overkill--often hard to find room for it and you can't wear the engine out anyhow if you are changing AMSOIL yearly.
