Subject: fuel relay problem

I am having a difficult to track problem somewhere and I think it may be the fuel pump relay. The car (80 900 turbo) will be driving along nicely and all of a sudden the relay will kick off and shut down the fuel pump. I will sometimes have to pop the hood take out the relay and tap it a little to get it to start again. sometimes it will not happen for weeks at a time. I have tried unsucessfully to have the problem diagnosed but garages seem to shy away from doing the diagnosis. I dont want to burn out a new relay as one garage suggested it might do plus the 100+ price tag on a new relay puts a damper on that plan. Some mechanics said it was a bad sensor the latest said a ground in the fuel system was responsible but he didnt want or have the time to do the job. If anyone even has an inkling as to what this annoying problem is please help. The relay loves to shut me down at stoplights! Zachary Ronan
