I just bought a 91 900S and there is no chrome around my windows, door handles, or wheel. All of these components are black. I assume at some point they did away with the chrome finish. That is the only thing I can help you with, although I would look after the 900. There should be evidence of a "S" if there was one. Actually the red reflector where the license plate is sounds interesting.
