Subject: Saab Motor Head Wanna Be

When I was 18 it was all I could to to scrape up gas money. 20 years later the midlife crisis and alittle extra cash are mixing into a bad idea. It is time for me to start working on my 900. I have a very strong mechanical / engineering background but I never got in to the 'Motor Head' thing. ( did rebuild my 99 engine twice but that was just to keep it running) So I need some pointers on what to to and where to go to breath some fire back into my 900. It is an 85 with 170,000 on original everything. The body is good. ( I need to get after the paint blisters and such but other wise..) I dont think that there is a single bushing on the entire car that is worth saving and there is a fair amount of piston slap ( I think that is what it is .. have not looked into it yet) My options are to get rid of this one and find a 9000 that I like. But I am not happy with the direction they have gone. (I would prefere my 99 back). Or I can spend the money I would have spent on the 9000 on my present 900. I am thinking about hitting the Bone yard first and getting a new engine/gearbox and get them all spiffed up and then swapping (It is my daily driver although I have over vehicles if nessecary). I know I will need brakes / suspension / tires / sunroof (gotta have it!)/ stereo / ect.... Any pointer would be very welcome. Do to spam You will need to respond here. Thanks
