Subject: Re: 900 vs 9000

Hi Tanner, I am the proud owner of an 86 9000t for the last year. I have only driven a couple of 900 for very short time periods, so I couldn't really compare the ownership experiences that you may have. What I can tell you is that I love this car to death. I like it so much that I could go on and on about it. But let me save some bandwith and put it in a pluses vs minuses form: Pluses: -It is a Saab, hence unique, and the more unique because it's a 9000 -Driving with a turbo compressor (love the feeling) -It is durable. Day after day you find out about a Saab (900 or 9000) with this 2.0 Turbo turnin odometers into the high 200 thou miles -Its perfomance. Sure, it is not an M5 but for a car of this size, a 2.0 liter engine, and such amazing gas mileage the performance is great. -Design. Inside and out it is unique and somewhat timeless (Jump into any other 86 model year car and find one that looks less out of date than this car. You can enven buy some brand new cars today with less attractive dashboards than that of my nine thousend's) -Size. The best way to refer to it's size is PERFECT. It has the length of a 900 (beleive it!) room for 5 and then some. Sure, it is heavier. But where else can you get the cargo space and convenience of this car without other than on a cumbersome station wagon or a monstruous s.u.v.(sans utility vehicle) -Comfort. The accomodations are great, and the legroom in the back seat...amazing, specially for a car that has so little in common with the L. Towncar. -The wow factor. For a car with this many miles and years...you wouldn't beleive it...but a few people at work had asked me where I got the money for a ride like that. They all assumed it was over 6 years newer than it was. They also thought that I had dished out a lot more money (a lot!) than I actually had. (Disclaimer: the interior of my car shows its age a bit more and they had not taken a look at it, yet....) I HAVE ALREADY TAKEN UP TOO MUCH SPACE SO LETS GET A COUPLE OF MINUSES IN: -It is a Saab. Maintenance and parts tends to be more pricey (you already should know) Now, mostly it is little glitches here and there, and most older cars have olready have had many of these things done by previous owners (good owners!) -Size. Sure, it is not as nimble as a 900 -Headliner. Most older Saabs seem to go thru these but nothing a few bucks cant fix. So, enough already. I guess the major plus and minus is that one so easily gets attached to these darn things! Yeah, I live in the Bay Area and will soon move back to Europe...so I will be parting prematurely with mine. What can I say...I already miss it.
