The Passat is newer than the 9-5, the 9-5 has been out in Europe for a year already, so hopefully most of any bugs that were there are worked out. I also think Saab USA has learned from their experiences with the last revision of the 900. I'd say both are probably fine choices, but the Saab will have more soul.
