Find an 8-valve engine from a, oh, '81 or '82 900 and drop it in. The original engine is a Triumph engine, but the later 1985cc engine is a more or less drop in replacement. You'll get a much more reliable car that's a little quicker and has more readily available parts. Original is a good thing on a classic, but we're talking Saabs here, and they really aren't classic (no matter how damned cool they are :) and the only thing you'll get out of the upgrade is a better car... -Justin
