he is right. in the US, it's about 500 dollars.. so, 500 pounds seems a bit steep. the good thing about a new rack is that once you put a new one on, you will never have to change it again probably for the life of the car. i did the same thing on my 1986 900, works GREAT now. of course the decision to get the rack or not depends on how good condition the car is in. i have put a lot into the car so it's in great shape... and i was fairly certain that the new rack would not be wasted... plus, if your car is female, wouldn't you want her to have a nice new rack? paul.
