Dear Bob: You can effectively ignore the "bass heads" that tend to write responses to a post of this type. If you're a SAAB owner, you're obviously more interested in quality than head-turning ability, so I deduce that what you're looking for is a replacement for your factory speakers that will give you proper sound quality in the lower end (upright bass in jazz, for example). The dash speakers in any car will never be able to reproduce the low frequencies you are looking for, these speakers are primarily designed to soundstage the midrange and high frequencies. The BostonAcoustics 4" are the definitive choice for a coaxial replacement for your factory speakers. Their accuracy is unmatched, I have the CX4s in the dash of my '87 900S, and they sound incredible. If you got the RX4s, even better. The bass frequencies will come from your rear speakers, which in a '93 9000 should be (if I remember correctly) a size called 6 1/2 S. This is slightly larger than a standard 6 1/2 speaker, and will give slightly better bass response in some cases. In this car I would use only a Boston or a Polk Audio speaker, because the speaker's accuracy will become immediately noticeable in the 9000's open cabin, and also in comparison to the BAs you have in the dash. Both the BA and the Polk speaker will give you the "low end" you are looking for, of course they won't shake the car or vibrate your body like a subwoofer, which would naturally be the solution if you are looking for low end "slam." If you're just looking for solid sound and accuracy, these easy replacements for your factory stereo should more than satisfy you. Don't settle for speakers from Pioneer or Kenwood, they tend to be good for loud volume but very short on clarity and accuracy. The same goes for Infinity Kappas, they are great for high volume, but only accurate in a certain range. IMHO, Boston or Polk is the way to go. By the way, another reply in this thread makes a good observation about the front to rear polarity problem on the Clarion factory system. Tinker with it and you may find that you get much better bass response from your factory system.
