Well, as I said in my previous post, it's really a matter of personal opinion. For me, I feel that the investment was justified. I have a cup of coffee on the way to work EVERY DAY. It is FAR easier to drive with two hands when shifting than one. And I like being able to put the cup down, and not worry about it spilling when driving over bumps, and around corners. And I really hate embarrassing coffee stains on my clothing all day long. And the second reason I felt the investment was justified is that, when driving on long (2-3+ hour) trips, having an armrest makes a big difference.
