Subject: Re: 99 Saab 9-5- Owner Impressions/Comments?

I bought a 9-5 about a month ago. The V-4 with sunroof, auto, ventilated seats. It has the regular audio system, which is just fabulous. Haven't heard the upgraded one, of course, but I'm more than satisfied with the standard one. It beats the top of the line audio system in my wife's '96 Volvo 850 Turbo. Again, I've not driven the V-6, but I enjoy the V-4. Keep in mind it's a turbo, so it's not your standard V-4. I've not really driven it hard yet (trying to be good during the break-in). The 0-60 speed quoted in reviews is 8 seconds. Cruising at highway speeds it's a wonderful ride. One reviewer picked the V-4 manual over the V-6. On the other hand, another said the V-6 was "smoother." Drive it and see! The ventilated seats are a little questionable. When I feel them, it's great - a nice sensous feeling. More often, though, I don't even notice and they're kind of noisy. As someone else mentioned, Saab sends an investigation team to accidents in Sweeden involving Saabs to look at real life crash performance, so their design is based on more than test data. The security system is also state of the art. In a Sweedish agency's tests, the Saab security system was the only one that reformed car thiefs were unable to break into in the two minute time-limit of the test (out of 30+ cars).
