So how many miles does this car have on it, and has the trans been rebuilt in the past? I understand that there's an adjustment in the linkage for 5th gear, but the fact that it started giving you trouble after the 1st gear problem is rather suspect. Does it have any whine in 4th and 5th gears out on the highway when accelerating? I understand this is a symptom of bad pinion bearings.
