I would appreciate any help or advice on the following: Last weekend I set out to cure the "hunting idle" problem which my 87 9000 Turbo periodically has had since new (where the first two minutes after start are spent with the idle cycling from 500 to about 1500 RPM). With the tank level very low, I ran two cans of Berryman fuel injector cleaner through, refilled the tank, and then sprayed an entire can of CRC Throttle Valve Cleaner onto the throttle plate (which seemed pretty clean) and into any device from which I could easily disconnect a vacuum or air hose. This has worked for me in the past. "Hunting" part was slightly cured, but now the car idles at about 1800 RPM, rather than the suggested 900 or so. I am reluctant to fiddle with the idle speed adjustment, since I always thought the computer made any necessary adjustments. Strange observation: with the car idling at 1800, turning the ignition switch from the "run" position to midway between "run" and "on" (which shuts off the dash lights but otherwise allows the engine to operate), makes the speed drop to the correct 900 RPM. Car has a standard trans, 143k, air and vacuum hoses seem intact and attached, about 45k on spark plugs, 75k on Oxy sensor (if that means anything), runs OK otherwise. Bonus tip: I have experienced good results when doing oil changes with a Bosch 72137 filter, which resembles the "big" filter originally on the car. These have an anti-drainback valve and are only $5.00 each at my local import parts place.
