I'm not sure if the Audi A4 is available in Australia, but it was one of the cars I was considering before I test drove the 900. One test drive in the Saab sold me on the car, and unlike some cars which look great in the showroom but get old very quickly, the 900 has been growing on me more and more every day in the six months I've owned it. The car has it all. Great handling and maneuverability in the city and excellent for long trips on the highway. The engine is right in its powerband above 2100rpms or so (above 90km/h) and makes for effortless and extremely rapid passing without downshifting. It has excellent acceleration (under 7 seconds with a manual shifter). The beauty of the Saab is that you get all that performance without sacrificing any comfort or practicality. Sure, there are faster cars, but can their trunks swallow a sport utility vehicle-like 25 cubic feet of cargo (double that if you fold down the rear seat) while returning an un-sport utility-like mixed 27.5 miles per gallon in mixed city/highway driving and over 32 taking it easy on the highway (100 km/h)? The 900 is a comfortable, spacious, and relaxing car inside, with great seats and good visibility through the large-upright windshield. It gives the interior a real roomy feeling. In my mind, it cannot be beat. There have been a few annoying problems such as a squeak in the rear seat (which was fixed by the dealer) and a malfunction in the driver's side door linkage, but the quality is no worse than average, and is worth putting up with for such a great car. Good luck, and enjoy your Saab.
