The 900 is going to be faster in acceleration than the 323, and will tie the 328. The BMW might be rear-wheel drive, but I can say after driving a rear-wheel drive sports car for three years before my 900SE that the differences are really negligible in everyday driving. Unless you're going to race the car on the weekends, a well-designed front wheel drive car with a sporty suspension will suit you fine for "sporty" driving at legal speeds on normal roads. But, speaking from both my own experience and that of a friend who had a newer version BMW 325, a front-wheel drive car such as the Saab will beat the pants off the BMW in snow and ice. Traction control or not, the car with more weight over its drive wheels (Saab) will handle better.
