Agreed. But it still seems to me that the original poster has legitimate reason to believe that he hasn't been treated well by the manufacturer. I don't know what model year he has, but on my 94 9000, bumper-to-bumper coverage is 3 yrs/40,000 miles., while major systems coverage is 6 yrs/80,000 miles. I would have assumed that a crankshaft manufacturing problem would have been covered by the major systems warranty. He said that it was three years old, 160,000 km (~100,000 miles), and out of warranty (due to years, not miles, it sounded like). Even if it was in fact out of warranty--- and it's not clear to me why, and even if it was, it couldn't have been over the limit by much--- I would have hoped that a manufacturing defect appearing at three years, if it could clearly be shown to be such, would have led to at least some concession from Saab. Perhaps he should have been more persistent and appealed over the head of that by-the-book "Ms. Johnson". Higher ups might have been more flexible. I would have corresponded starting at the top. In any case, I can't blame him for feeling bad about Saab, never again buying one, and slamming the entire company. I would probably feel and do the same, if the basis were reasonable, and after exhausting all avenues of appeal.
