Andrew, I have owned three Saabs, all 5 spds, and the clutch is a consummable. I started with an 83 900T, I picked up new from the factory in Sweden. That was followed by a used 87 900S that had to have the clutch replaced before I would buy it, $668.00, and my current 87 9000S. I am hoping that this one will last a while. The same goes for fan belts and tires. If a tire goes bad early, they will always refer you to the manufacturer for prorated warranty replacement. Unfortunately $700 sounds about right for a 96 SE...Your engine is transverse mounted like my 87 9000S....This is a different animal than the earlier 900 models....
