Subject: Re: Saab 9000 Tire Recommendations

Original tires on my '94 9000 CSE Turbo were Pirelli P4000 E 205/60ZR15 with UTQG of 180AA. These Z-rated tires needed replacement by about 25,000 miles. I think their expected lifetime is 20,000 miles. For my second generation, I'm using Pirelli P4000 SuperTouring 205/60VR15. These V-rated tires have 40,000 mile warranty and UTQG of 320AA, so I'm expecting them to have a lifetime 1.8 times that of the original Z-rated. I bought them mail order from Tire Rack and from Discount Tire, less than $100/tire at the time. One of the original Pirellis blew out...due to hitting piece of debris on I-24 in Nashville. I now carry a full-size spare, in addition to the compact Nokia T 115/70R16, especially on long trips far from home.
