You don't say what model or year Saab you have. If it is a 9000 model, check your linkage and shifter coupler. I had mine go bad the beginning of August. Everything was fine. I parked, came back out and reverse, 1st and 2nd had disappeared. My Saabtech friend did a temporary fix with coat hanger wire. It gave me 1st through 4th and reverse, until I could get the part replaced the next day. The repair cost $117. List for the coupler is about $56, but the wholesale is about $20.
