It found its origins at Triumph, but AFAIK they only recently produced an 8-cylinder. Now, there's no argument that the Saab engine *looks* like it's half of a 90-degree V8, but that is mostly for vibration control and ease of engineering, not because of some long-lost tie to V8s... No, I do believe the Saab four-cylinder was *always* a four cylinder. From a 1.7l Triumph engine to a 1.8l Triumph engine to a 2.0l Saab engine. In fact, since 1982 when the B-block (B20) four was dropped altogether, it lost most of its ties to the ancient Triumph engine. -Justin
