Tom, For the turbo models premium will give you the best performance, but this is not always true for the non-turbo models...I drove an 83 900T for over 13 years on premium, 93 octane...When it was replaced with an 87 900S 16v 5spd, I tried premium, but the car ran like a dog...When I dropped back to the 89 octane mid-grade the car began to run better and my gas mileage increased about 2 to 3 mpg...The 87 9000S 5 spd I now drive uses the mid-grade 89 octane...The previous owner used premium. Again with the mid-grade octane the performance is better and the mileage increased....The bottom line is if a car, regardless of make, does not have a high enough compression and a hot enough spark, it will not burn premium cleanly and result in deposit build up...The APC system does not increase compression or the temperature of the spark, and if your computer is not set up to use premium, you waste money.
