Subject: 92 9000S making gas smell (not the owner, I've checked)

My Dad's BEAUTIFUL 92 9000S 5-speed, with 95,000 miles, has recently begun making a strong gasoline smell when it's shut off in the garage. I don't know whether this problem persists when running. I wonder if this might be the filler tube, primer pump (if these cars are so equipped), fuel filter, or main pump (if equipped)? I'm positive the smell is coming from the rear, seems stronger on the left side. The car seems to take seven or eight cranks to start when cold, so I'm guessing it's a pump problem? No inaccuracies in the fuel gauge. The car is otherwise running flawlessly as always. I'd appreciate any and all feedback on this matter. Thanks! David Ingram dingramnopsam.net
