Subject: 85-900T: Ignition problem (no start)

My 85 900T has a problem similar to a thread that ran back in July. The engine would turn over, but not start. The advice was to check to find out if it's the fuel delivery system, or the ignition. I replaced the distributor cap, rotor, and spark plugs and then tried to start the engine. No start. I took out one of the spark plugs w/ its wire and tried to start it. No spark. I smelled gas on the end of the spark plug. The battery is fine. The fuse box looks OK. The problem happened all of a sudden and not heat related. Are the only things left the spark plug wires, the distributor, and the metal box that the ignition wire comes from (is this the hall connector?)? Is there any way of checking each part to tell if it is bad? Should I succumb to the local Saab dealer and take it in? Thanks for any advice! -lou kusnier
