Subject: Re: Saab SPG Convertibles

There most definitly was an SPG convertible in 1988. I t was called The Springtime in Sweden Convertible. I should know, I own one of these. It was only available in Black with black top. It had the side body moldings, sport exhaust, 3 spoke wheels, no badges except for Saab on the left rear, and a red APC box. It did not have the suspension modifications of the hardtop SPGs, but it still ahndles very well. It was the only true factory SPG convertible. In 1991 Saab made a limited number of Special Edition Convertibles (SEs). These were 900 turbo convertibles with side body moldings and the 3 spoke wheels. Only made in 1991. Only available in Grey (?Eduardian) and Monte Carlo yellow (which is the color of the one in Minnesota I assume for I was interested in looking at it, but was told it was probably sold - did you end up buying it?) Approx 300 brought over to the US. No performance mods from the factory. If you se an 91 SE convt with a sport exhaust, sport suspension, or red APC box, those were all dealer installed options. The car is very beautiful. Also the SE convertibldes were not offers in 1992. Only in 1991!!. There was a limited edition convertible produced in 1994 that did have the SPG performance enhancements (185 hp). They however did not have the SPG side body moldings or the standard SPG 3 soke wheels. They did have a very eye-catching 3 spoke assymetric grey polished wheel. They were all a charcoal grey/black color with tan top and wood grain dash. >> When did Saab make SPG convertibles? I just went ALL the way to Minnesota to >> buy a 1991 SPG Convertible which Saab USA confirmed was an honest and true >> SPG. Now as I am looking at the local swap sheet, I see an ad for a 1988 SPG >> convertible. I was under the impression that Saab only made the SPG >> convertible in LIMITED numbers in 1991 and 1992 only. Is this person trying >> to swindle someone or was there really a 1988 SPG convertible made? >>
