Never mind what your mechanic friend says...There is always somebody wanting to piss on somebodyelse's parade...Saabs are good and can be reliable, if you are willing to do the preventive maintenance...Before you buy any Saab, find a good independent Saab tech and have them go through the car...If they find too many problems walk away, and make sure the person doing the pre-buy inspections knows what they are doing...I know someone who bought an 86 900T...They had the wrong people do the inspection and bought the car...In less than 90 days they went to a reliable independent, only to learn their Saab needed about $3400 worth of work....So get it checked out!!!! If all is good, and you like to tinker, get your hands on Bently or Chilton manual and do some to the small stuff yourself...Impex Distributors, 1-800-736-3550, www.zstarr.com/impex is a good source for Saab parts that will save you money...They have saved me a nice chunk of change on my 87 9000S....If the car checks out and you get it...Good luck and welcome to the Saab family.
