The message <36462CB9.5EA7BEE7nopsamr.net> from "A. Thomas/C. Hollinger" <athomasnopsamr.net> contains these words: > I have 50,000 miles on my car and was thinking of changing the fuel > filter. Anyone change the filter that can offer some tips? Its a simple enough job, just make sure you have the filter the correct way round ( ther should be little arrows embossed in the filter case. Also you will get a bit of fuel spillage when you disconect the fuel lines, have a wad of rag on the wheel arch to soak up any spillage. It might be an idea to drain the surplus fuel in the old filter into a container when you undo the first union. > Also, I was thinking of changing the plugs and the distibutor cap. The > owner's booklet makes no mention on the cap on when it should be > changed. Any thoughts will be helpful. Its upto you, they're cheap enough components, so if you want to do it, but with only 50k on the clock I doubt the distributor cap needs changing. if you do change it, put some tape on the ignition leads and number them in the order they come off (ie take off one lead at a time and number it immediately and then do the next one). When you come to replace the leads, make sure you remember which point on the distibutor is number one and which way round you are counting (ie top left point is number 1 and then count in a clockwise rotation to the next point to number 2 and so on) -- Mark Trudgill..
