Its your brake calipers. There is a groove in them in which the yoke that applies pressure to the outboard pad rides. I know it seems unreasonable, but, after the first 150,000 miles are on the beast these grooves start to enlarge, allowing play in the caliper. When you stop from backing the yoke thumps on the cast iron caliper. It sounds worse than it is. ALL my SAABs do that. A reman caliper from SAAB is not that much money.
