Oh, and reliable, sorry Trabant's out. What about people > who own a BMW or M-B as well as a Saab, are we no longer counterculture? Or > less of a Saab or BMW enthusiast? I am an auto enthusiast, regardless of the > make(s) of auto(s) I own. > You forget your history. SAABs were indeed designed different than any other car. 2 stroke, 3 cylinders, front-wheel drive? A fwd fiberglass-body sports car? (I loved my Sonett!) These were indeed unique vehicles. Even the later cars (first high production fuel-injected turbos) are unique! Would a Trabant be a counter-culture car? Depends how you look at it. Unreliable? Not in my experience. Slow? Definitely. But Trabants have much more in common with early SAAB's than do modern SAAB's. Owning a SAAB doesn't make you "counterculture", but part of SAAB's appeal is its uniqueness. If anything, SAAB's are _too_ mainstream now! Some enthusiasts value uniqueness!
