When switching the tranny over from whatever it's using to synthetic tranny oil you should drain the fluid, refill it, drive it around a bit (1000 or so miles), drain it, and refill it again. Continue to repeat this process until all evidence of the oil fluid is eliminated. Mixing fluids will have a very negative effect on the tranny. The power steering is not so easy to change. You'll need a helper. Unplug the return line from the steering rack to the resevoir and let it sit in a bucket. You will want a helper to hold it. Get a LOT of power steering fluid. Start the car, and while the old fluid is pumped into the bucket, pour new fluid from the bottles into the resevoir. When the stuff emptying into the bucket is clean, stop the car, reattach the return line, and top off the resevoir. Be SURE you have LOTS of new fluid on hand. As a note, the "ugly gray color" is probably the seals in the steering rack disintigrating. I've used Valvoline "SynPower" synthetic steering fluid to good effect preserving old seals, but no matter what you do you'll eventually need a new rack. -Justin
