But it's not a DRAG car. I'm not saying FWD is completely unnecessary, I am refuting your claim that FWD gets better traction. Compare my FWD 220hp SHO to a RWD 200hp BMW 535i. Both are 5-speeds. The SHO weighs in at 3300lbs, and the BMW at nearly 3600. Both manage 0-60 in 6.5 seconds - despite the fact that the BMW weighs 300 lbs more and has 20 less hp. Why is this the case? Because the SHO can't get all of its power to the ground, whereas the BMW can. The Volvo 850 Sport Wagon would get going MUCH faster with improved traction. FWD is inadequate to deal with its massive power in drag racing applications. In the case of the 850, it's power is usable mostly for passing, and it's very good at passing. But give me a RWD was with 3/4ths its hp rating and I'll smash it in the 1/4 mile. > My EXPERIENCE with MB and Volvo with RWD versus FWD and AWD in > Volvo, Saab and Seat tells me that FWD is a way better in snow. > On my MB I HAD TO USE CHAINS in winter, while I never had to do > in with my FWD cars. You are very special. And I'm betting the reason you had to use chains on the RWD car is because you don't have enough experience driving. I've driven my parents' '85 Volvo 740T (RWD) in the snow sans chains and never had a problem. I've driven a few of my Saabs in the snow and never had a problem. Which did I prefer? The RWD Volvo. I found the handling much more predictable with RWD than FWD. But it doesn't matter what you and I think. The numbers speak for themselves. -Justin
