I have had some experience of both Volvo and Saab, but have never owned the bellowed mention models. I have driven them both, though and they are both good cars. Saab 9-5 I think is the perfect choice if you want to drive silently. Volvo on the other hand is cheaper to maintain at least in Sweden. I count Saab as a car more for the driver and Volvo more for the passengers. From my experience it's easier to find a good Volvo mechanicer than a Saab dito, but I might just have been unlucky. Which one is safer? Noone knows.... They are both very good. Some tests place Saab as the winner, other Volvo.
