I was told when I bought my 9000 a couple of
years ago(its a 1990) about the seat heaters.
The salesmen showed us they worked then proceeded 
to tell us not to use them because they tend
to go bad, and once they do its very difficult
and expensive to fix.  Sooo every now and then we turn them
on see that they warm up and turn them off to
"save" them I guess.
