My '89 900s non-turbo is going into the shop tomorrow for the same problem. My trusty mechanic says it most often happens to turbos, but mine is an exception. The problem is in the transmission. Some type of outer drive gears in the transmission wear down and get loose and separate during acceleration. Cost for me is about $300 for the parts and 3 hours labor. I forgot the exact name of the parts being replaced, but a good saab mechanic should know right away. Hope this helps. -Chris
