Subject: Re: fuel pump?

On my 85T: Gas smell underneath - Fuel filter had actually rusted through Fuel Pump - It's a carbon brush DC motor that actually runs in gas - at 145,000 the brushes have worn deep into the commutator - you need to check the fuel pressure regulator for leaks - if the diaphragm fails, it will leak gas into the vacuum line - this actually causes the pump to work overtime and may be the cause of your noise
