Subject: Best way to repair 91' 9000 power window?

I have found that the steel raise/lower cable has snapped. I have taken the motor out (still good) and bad cable. Repair shop says to fix, you must buy the entire assembly(too expensive).I have fashioned together a cable of the same lengh and gauge and crimped cable stays at the appropriate locations using the original cable as a guide. I can't figure out how to wind the cable back into the yellow wheel inside the motor. Help is needed please.
