Subject: Re: '82 Saab 900 clutch and cooling questions

thanks for the information, everyone Is it correct to assume that the engagement point of the clutch is just higher than most cars on these older 900's? because in general a failure of master or slave cylinders results in the friction pint being too close to the floor or the clutch not disengaging at all. Usually even on a hydraulic clutch there is an adjustment to get the free play to within spec. I have not measured the freeplay but there is some my only concern is that the clutch may not be completely engaging and might wear faster than it should. The bearing noise in the trans cannot be due to the throwout bearing because the noise goes away when i depress the pedal and disengage the clutch. it is only present in neutral when the pedal is out. it must be in the trans somewhere, maybe the input shaft. but as Mark mentioned this might be no big deal. looks like my cooling problem might not be a problem--i am used to Japanese cars where the guages are setup such that they should not deviate from the center positon under normal conditions (there is a lot of slop in that positin to make it do that I am sure) thanks for the advice guys. BTW, I love how the back seat folds down never seen another car do that before the seat bottom comes up and the back goes in to the hole where the bottom was. BTW, I have the four door with a trunk anyone ever tried putting a 4x8 sheet of something in there it looks like it would fit! Ashok
