I would stay well away from reducing the knock sensor sensitivity. You may end up blowing a head gasket and this is an expensive job unless you do it yourself. The APC does seem to do quite a good job at backing off the boost due to knock. I have noticed this in the last few weeks after replacing the fuel pump. I used to see only about 1/2 boost after a while when accelerating hard through the gears. The lack of fuel must have been running the engine very lean causing knock. Now I get boost into the red for a few seconds, then almost full boost in the higher gears. Third gear is the best to test boost. > A crazy mod I tried for a while was drilling a 3/16 hole in the pipe > from the solenoid to the wastegate. this just slowed down the opening > but the net effect was that the boost pressure came on very quickly > all the way to the limiter and sometimes blew most of the hoses off > the manifold! 0-60 in 5.4 though............. > > Where can you jumper out the pressure sensor? on my 89 T16S (UK) its > behind the glovebox and a major dismantling job. I tried these kinds of mods and didn't get alot of satisfaction. I think the APC has some kind of safety check algorithm. I noticed that at around 3,700 revs the APC would dump all the boost down to base boost level. I checked that this was being caused solely by revs by accelerating hard in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. Obviouslly the length of time that the boost was held for varied greatly. The boost cutting caused by engine knock is alot more subtle. My next mods are to fit a rising rate fuel pressure regulator and a recirculating dump valve. The total cost of these is not much more than £150. Good Luck.
