Go and buy a Ferrari and see how much you have to do! I don't hear you calling their engines pieces of crap. The 45K mark is used as a precuationary service interval. The belt may last upto 100K or more, but then again it could give up at 40K causing significant engine damage (valves smashing into pistons, not nice).
