The V6 used in the US-Spec. 900 from 95-97 was a piece of crap. SaabUSA recommends replacing the timing belt every 45K miles. The first change is done under warranty, but you're on your own for subsequent changes. I understand it has a tendency to swallow valves otherwise. The new asymmetrical turbo V6 in the 9-5 SE is a completely different engine, from what I'm told. I've driven it, and the low-end torque is great - no waiting for the engine to come up on cam. It does feel a bit "heavy" as compared to the 4-cyl. turbo, though. Now if only they'd put the high-output 4-cyl. in the 9-5...
