I switched my automatic to a 5 speed on my 1990 900s over a year ago as a necessity since the last owner trashed the automatic tranny - cost me $1400 canadian for the manual transmission and labour after a lot of shopping around. I'm happy with the switch, much better pick-up and milage.....if you can do it yourself, go for it.
