Subject: Re: Fluid Checks Driving Me Crazy- '96 9000 CS

Thanks very much for the reply. The dealer (euroMotorcars, Bethesda, MD) suggests tranny fluid and filter change at 60k, and brake fluid and coolant only as part of a major service package. (read, Big $$$s) I have 22,400 on the odometer. I told them I am going to follow my own insticts here. Tranny every two years; brake fluid every two years; coolant change every 3 years; oil change every 5-7k; oil filter every-other oil change. He told me that they have to do an oil and filter change to record it in their database. I think that this is fair, but I have DIYed it every 5-6k, and when the weather improved wanted to change to Mobil 1 synthetic. So, I get an oil and filter change at 1100 miles for their database, and no help at all for when I change to synthetics. What is not clear to me at all, is my original query here: why is the fluid level sensor so sensitive? He told me that there was no central point for oil, coolant, windshield washer, etc., and therefore nothing that could be adjusted for sensitivity. My instincts tell me this is pure nonsense. These individual sensors must come to a central control head that makes a decision as to light up the dashboard warnings or not. While I think the gentleman correct that they are, individually, not adjustable, it strikes me that at the central connection to the dash they must be equally screwed if all of the fluid sensors report a problem. My insticts also tell me that this is one of those problems that will never, ever., be resolved.
