Randy, How much do you trust your mechanic? Unless the system has been broken for a long time, it seems a little hard to beleive that it needs *all* those parts (compressor, 2 hoses, expansion valve, evaporator, and dryer?!?!). Don't get me wrong, if you replace everything in the system (only thing left is the condenser), it will probably work. But, you might be able to save some $$$ simply by getting a better diagnosis.
