Subject: Reliability of Saab 900

I took a quick look at a 1988 Saab 900 2 door hatchback with the non turbocharged 4 cylinder motor and an autmatic transmission. The car has 109,000 miles on it. Basically, I want to buy it for my parents (the good son). My father's trusty Ford truck was stolen and stripped to it's shell. He only had California's liability inusrance so he is at a loss. The owner wants $2,800 US for it. My parents live in Los Angeles, California, USA. I did not look at it as seriously as I should have and cannot tell you if it has the 16 valve or 8 valve motor. But, at 109,000 miles, what can I expect to go wrong with the car? I noticed the serpentine belt faced the firewall. If I needed to change the alternator, how difficult would it be? How reliable is the Saab automatic transmission? How reliable is the car in general? My father is not an agressive driver, but he does like to take my mother away for weekend trips to Rosarito, Mexico, which is approximately 200 miles from L.A. Any input will be greatly appreciated. -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
