I'm experiencing the same problem with my '93 9000 CS, I know one of the mechanics at the dealership where I have my car serviced at. He troubleshot the problem to a bad fan resistor. The problem is caused by the brushes in the fan motor being worn down. To properly repair this he recommends replacement of the motor and the resistor. If you only replace the resistor it would only give you a temporary (band aid) fix, the worn brushes will make the resistor fail once again. Parts for this job is about $370 plus approximately 6 hours in labor cost. To replace the fan unit you have to teardown the firewall area, and the engine has to moved forward.. He mentioned that the fan may just stop working all together. Good luck, and let me know if you find out otherwise.
