Subject: Re: Best Type Oil To Use

Carl, That was my response. I had an 83 900T 5 spd I bought new and picked up at the factory while stationed in Belgium. For the most part I used Castrol GTX 10W30 and 10W40 from 1985 on. A Toyota dealer in Mississippi recommended Castrol for the Toyota because it was engineered for the smaller 4 cylinder engines. I did use the Castrol 20W50 for about 10,000 miles of the first 195,234 miles. I had the misfortune of trying Slick 50. About 2000 miles after the oil and filter was changed and Slick 50 was added, I had to replace my engine. After that I stuck with Castrol 10W30, but I also started using Militec-1. The car went to the salvage yard with over 251,000 miles in Sept. 95. The replacement engine ran like new, but it would have cost to much to try and fix the car.
