If it doesn't work, you're only out about $100 and if it does you've saved a minimum of $250 (for a cartridge). $2800!?!?!? PLEASE!!!!! This repair should take you 3-4 hours tops, unless you run into frozen studs. Since I didn't catch the original post, I don't know how old your car is, so.... But I would look around for an independent repair shop. They probably won't be bothered if you bring them either a cartridge or a rebuilt unit to install, although the labor might be a little higher.
