Subject: Recommendation for After-Market CD Receiver for 1990 SAAB 900?

I always liked the sound of the original Clarion cassette receiver that came with my 1990 SAAB 900. However, when it became defective, I bought a SONY CD receiver from Crutchfield (this was about 4 years ago). I've always found the SONY's sound to be somewhat harsh, and hollow, as compared to the Clarion. My question is: is it safe to assume that the "after-market" Clarion CD receiver will sound similar to the original equipment? Also, are Clarion products generally not reliable? If the latter is true, then is there a recommendation for full-bodied, warm-sounding CD receiver, with no harshness? Oh yes, I still have the original speakers. And I am looking for a CD-receiver in the $200 - $300 range. Thanks in advance Ernie
