The cam kept falling of the shaft on my girlfriends old 86 SPG, and I had to reassemble the whole thing four or five times (often on the side of the road in a rainstorm) before I figured out how to get the cam pressed back onto the wiper arm shaft. It's been quite a few years, but as I recall, I pulled the wiper arm off, pulled the cam off the shaft, wrapped the cable around, setting the metal crimp in the indent on the cam (you'll be able to tell from the grooves worn in the cam how it wraps around), set the cam down into place (making sure to put the washers in place under it), and then put the wiper arm shaft back into place. To press the shaft back onto the cam *tightly* (if you just press it in by hand, it will fall off again after a few hours of wiping), I found that a large socket (like a 36mm) down under the cowling, beneath the cam, to support it. I then put a nut on the wiper end of the wiper shaft, to give me something to pound agains w/out damaging the shaft- and then used a socket that would slip over the end of the shaft, but rest on this nut - and used a mallet to tap on this "drift" to set the shaft into the pulley firmly. hope this helps, Geoff
